The New York Islanders have named Doug Weight as their new captain. The choice was made through a player vote. Richard Park, Brendan Witt, Mark Streit and Kyle Okposo have been given assistant roles.

Ok so draft John Tavares already. There have been some rumblings of an option to get Hedman and Duchene. Instead.

Would be easier if a clause (a no brainer) in the Guerin trade also gave the Islanders the Pens '09 first round pick if Pittsburgh wins the cup, but we'll work with what we've got. Tampa Bay trades the second overall pick in the 2009 NHL entry draft and forward Ryan Malone to the New York Islanders for the 26th and 37th picks in the draft and defenseman Mark Streit.
